Two wick systems side by side comparison with plants.

Update

Here’s an update on the comparison between my two wicking systems, each with a White Devil’s Tail. One is in a single 5 gallon bucket with a 6 inch net pot and wick hanging down in solution. This one has a deep reservoir than just just below the bottom of the net pot. The other is in a diy Earthbox style self watering container, consisting of two 5-gallon buckets. The internal bucket is full of potting mix. It has a shallow reservoir.

See this video to see the full comparison and results as of 8/26/17 that show total pods and pod weight from each system.

  1. Hi Peter, thank you for the detailed comparison. Is the microfiber wick method something you would still recommend today?

    1. Thank you. I still use it, there are probably better options, helps to experiment. I don’t recommend pure cotton and some t-shirt blends as I have found them to disintegrate fairly quickly.
