Here’s an update on the comparison between my two wicking systems, each with a White Devil’s Tail. One is in a single 5 gallon bucket with a 6 inch net pot and wick hanging down in solution. This one has a deep reservoir than just just below the bottom of the net pot. The other is in a diy Earthbox style self watering container, consisting of two 5-gallon buckets. The internal bucket is full of potting mix. It has a shallow reservoir.
Video
See this video to see the full comparison and results as of 8/26/17 that show total pods and pod weight from each system.
Here’s an update on the Helios Habanero growing in my low-pressure aeroponic system. The plant is doing very well, and at the time I did this update I had harvested 200 ripe pods.
Video
Here’s a video of the update.
Here’s the original build video showing how I put this together.
The peppers are in full swing. Every plant has lots of fruits. Most of them have ripe pods. I’m very happy with the progress. Every year there are always a few that aren’t few that are crossed. Sometimes I really like the crosses and continue to grow them out, such as the Jay’s Red Ghost Scorpion x unknown f2, yellow pheno I have now. Another is the Kpakpo Shito x unknown f2. The new ones for this year are the not 7-Pot Olive (producing brown pods), not Peach Moruga Scorpion. This one appears to be a seed mixup maybe. I looks like it might be a Peach Carbonero. I’ll show pics to the original grower and ask him about it. My Swiss Chocolate also appears possible crossed. They haven’t ripened yet, but the pods are way larger than the original. The seeds came from an un-isolated pod so the chance it is crossed is greater. It might be something I love and continue to grow though. Will have to see after some ripen. I harvested a bunch off the porch yesterday. Have most of them in the dehydrator, some were vac sealed and frozen.
Getting a lot more plant growth and ripening pods. The only plant that isn’t doing as well is my Chiltepin Yellow. I overfilled it last week and that was drowning the plant. This happens with Kratky systems when the air exchange roots get submerged. I’ve fixed that and hoping it will recover.
The peppers are doing very well, still have a few that need permanent homes for the season. Most plants have pods, some starting to turn ripe. See video below.
The drip system plants are responding well to increased ferts. I think the fertigation is going to cost me quite a bit this year in Dyna-Gro though. It would pay for it self within one or two years to invest in a second injector and mixing chamber and just run Masterblend.
My porch plants are doing well. The Chiltepin is pushing out little pods. The fruits on the deep-reservoir wick bucket are ripening to a deep orange. They are supposed to be CARDI Yellow Scorpion, but not sure if they are true. The flavor is excellent, very sweet and fruity, a little more than habanero level. The low pressure aeroponic Helios hab is producing a lot of fruit, and consuming a gallon every one to two days. It currently takes around 7-8 gallons to top off all the other porch plants after two or three days.
I still have a bunch in the basement that need to o out. Also planning to move the Manazon from the AeroGarden Bounty down to the basement in a DWC bucket under the 400 watt light. This will stage it for going outside.

it’s June 24, 2017, going to give a
0:00:08.080,0:00:09.360
pepper grow update
0:00:10.640,0:00:13.120
start on the porch peppers, this is my
0:00:13.680,0:00:14.960
chinese red pepper
0:00:16.280,0:00:18.520
got lots and lots of fruits on here
0:00:19.980,0:00:21.100
some starting to
0:00:21.100,0:00:22.260
actually I’ve had some
0:00:22.260,0:00:23.920
turning ripe but some are
0:00:24.200,0:00:26.600
the bigger ones are starting to turn
0:00:29.440,0:00:30.160
and this is
0:00:30.160,0:00:34.380
the one that’s got the long ascension number, but it’s the small creme habanero
0:00:35.360,0:00:37.600
I think it’s got some flowers on it
0:00:37.980,0:00:39.500
this is the Thai Dragon
0:00:40.140,0:00:42.060
it has lots and lots of fruits
0:00:44.840,0:00:46.680
none are really ripe yet but
0:00:46.680,0:00:47.800
probably won’t be long
0:00:50.300,0:00:52.860
my Chiltepin yellow has the first ever
0:00:54.460,0:00:55.100
pods on it
0:00:56.500,0:00:57.780
there’s one of them
0:00:57.780,0:01:00.220
there’s another, yeah here’s a better one
0:01:03.400,0:01:04.280
there’s that
0:01:04.280,0:01:08.840
I’ve been growing this since last year, but never had it out where it could really grow
0:01:10.880,0:01:11.520
this is my
0:01:11.520,0:01:13.300
one of my aji painapple plants
0:01:14.040,0:01:14.540
and
0:01:14.640,0:01:16.960
in a shallow reservoir wick bucket
0:01:18.560,0:01:21.200
and it was looking pretty bad for a while
0:01:21.200,0:01:23.240
but it’s actually coming back and
0:01:23.320,0:01:25.000
it has a lot of flowers and
0:01:25.180,0:01:28.140
and blooms, and I think a few tiny pods on here
0:01:29.300,0:01:29.860
forming
0:01:30.220,0:01:33.100
this is a mess of stuff that still needs to be
0:01:34.180,0:01:34.680
moved
0:01:34.740,0:01:35.240
and
0:01:36.180,0:01:37.620
my white devils tails
0:01:37.620,0:01:39.660
and one of these has fruits on it
0:01:41.140,0:01:42.020
the one in the
0:01:44.000,0:01:45.840
large reservoir container
0:01:45.860,0:01:46.580
had fruits
0:01:49.900,0:01:51.020
there’s one there
0:01:53.300,0:01:54.660
there’s another one
0:01:54.660,0:01:58.180
the one that’s in the self watering container is actually a nicer looking
0:01:58.320,0:01:58.820
plant
0:01:58.820,0:02:01.960
both of them are good, this is a little bigger plants
0:02:02.080,0:02:03.920
but its fruit production is
My drip system is fully functional now. I just started increasing the nutrient strength a couple days ago. With the exception of the timer and fert injector, all of my drip parts came from Drip Depot. I’m working on a video now that will show how I built my system and suggestions for making your own.
I still need to get some Kratky totes filled and placed, and also setup my nutrient comparison between Masterblend and Dyna-gro growing habaneros.

00:00:00,000 –> 00:00:03,060
Hi this is Peter Stanley, welcome to my channel
2
00:00:03,780 –> 00:00:05,860
today I want to give an update on
3
00:00:07,060 –> 00:00:08,980
my plants, umm it’s June 10th
4
00:00:08,980 –> 00:00:11,260
and it’s been two weeks since my last update
5
00:00:12,200 –> 00:00:14,680
mostly what I’ve got in here are herbs
6
00:00:14,680 –> 00:00:15,320
I’ve got a
7
00:00:17,300 –> 00:00:18,740
pepper cutting there
8
00:00:21,380 –> 00:00:23,780
some more cuttings of rooting herbs
9
00:00:24,520 –> 00:00:26,680
this is the Orange Manzano plant
10
00:00:27,260 –> 00:00:28,380
That Susan Garza
11
00:00:28,520 –> 00:00:29,800
Susan Garza gave me
12
00:00:31,200 –> 00:00:33,360
it’s putting out some new growth
13
00:00:34,340 –> 00:00:35,940
I just need to figure out
14
00:00:35,940 –> 00:00:36,940
where to move this to so
15
00:00:37,020 –> 00:00:38,220
it can really grow
16
00:00:38,220 –> 00:00:41,300
but I was kind of giving it a little transition period
17
00:00:41,300 –> 00:00:42,060
in the AeroGarden
18
00:00:42,320 –> 00:00:43,760
this some Purple Sage
19
00:00:44,260 –> 00:00:45,460
looks really good
20
00:00:45,460 –> 00:00:48,420
I took down my Jamaican Hot Chocolate and these are some cuttings
21
00:00:48,420 –> 00:00:52,120
I’ll to get it going for next year. I was having some problems with the roots
22
00:00:53,080 –> 00:00:54,840
uh, this is really neat and
23
00:00:55,160 –> 00:00:58,280
could do this for peppers too, but these are all
24
00:00:58,280 –> 00:01:00,840
herbs from cuttings, I’ve got some Pineapple Sage
25
00:01:01,660 –> 00:01:02,620
and Lemon Balm
26
00:01:02,740 –> 00:01:05,380
Mugwort, and they’re basically little
27
00:01:06,360 –> 00:01:07,480
little wick cups
28
00:01:07,880 –> 00:01:08,600
new design
29
00:01:08,880 –> 00:01:11,440
little eight ounce cup with some slits
30
00:01:11,560 –> 00:01:12,520
cut out around
31
00:01:12,880 –> 00:01:13,680
the corners
32
00:01:14,360 –> 00:01:16,040
and this is just one of the
33
00:01:16,040 –> 00:01:18,200
those plastic salad containers
34
00:01:18,380 –> 00:01:19,900
from the grocery store
35
00:01:21,180 –> 00:01:22,620
really cheap and easy
36
00:01:25,400 –> 00:01:26,680
this my herb garden
37
00:01:27,440 –> 00:01:30,160
most of what I’ve got left in the basement
38
00:01:30,880 –> 00:01:32,240
and this is eggplant
39
00:01:35,620 –> 00:01:36,820
another eggplant
40
00:01:38,560 –> 00:01:39,520
some tomatoes
41
00:01:40,980 –> 00:01:41,700
some basil
42
00:01:43,160 –> 00:01:45,400
I’ve got my Malagueta pepper here
43
00:01:46,620 –> 00:01:49,100
that Jayden Ling sent me the seeds for
44
00:01:49,920 –> 00:01:52,240
I need to put that outside, and also
45
00:01:52,440 –> 00:01:53,880
got a Geronimo pepper
46
00:01:54,500 –> 00:01:56,180
and this is my drip system
47
00:01:58,480 –> 00:02:00,640
I think the plants have adjusted
48
00:02:00,640 –> 00:02:02,480
and they’re starting to put out new growth
49
00:02:03,540 –> 00:02:05,460
leaves are a little yellower
50
00:02:05,460 –> 00:02:08,100
than I’d like but I started out with a weaker
51
00:02:08,340 –> 00:02:09,780
much weaker solution
52
00:02:09,780 –> 00:02:11,860
so I started ramping that up, so this
53
00:02:11,860 –> 00:02:15,140
two weeks from now in the next update they should be
54
00:02:15,140 –> 00:02:17,080
more filled out, the only plant that
55
00:02:18,800 –> 00:02:20,080
really has trouble
56
00:02:20,520 –> 00:02:22,040
is this Blue Christmas
57
00:02:23,360 –> 00:02:23,860
and
58
00:02:24,500 –> 00:02:26,340
seems like when it’s warmer
59
00:02:26,340 –> 00:02:27,600
it really looks bad, but in the evening
60
00:02:27,600 –> 00:02:29,820
and the mornings the leaves perk back up
61
00:02:30,680 –> 00:02:32,680
I’ve got some ripe pods on here
62
00:02:33,100 –> 00:02:33,980
I need to pick
63
00:02:35,480 –> 00:02:37,240
I’m getting some fruits on
64
00:02:37,620 –> 00:02:38,900
quite a few of these
65
00:02:39,100 –> 00:02:41,100
Here’s my Chocolate UnReaper
66
00:02:49,800 –> 00:02:51,400
peppers back up in there
67
00:02:58,000 –> 00:02:59,600
Brazilian Red Olive has
68
00:03:00,600 –> 00:03:02,280
has some little pods on it
69
00:03:04,780 –> 00:03:05,980
This is my Stravos
70
00:03:12,420 –> 00:03:13,620
This Queen Laurie
71
00:03:13,620 –> 00:03:15,800
looks good, it’s a really fast grower
72
00:03:19,140 –> 00:03:20,260
Sugar Rush Peach
73
00:03:21,460 –> 00:03:22,980
has a lot of fruits on it
74
00:03:24,420 –> 00:03:25,940
bunch in the back there
75
00:03:26,880 –> 00:03:29,280
Cereja da Amapa has a, I just noticed
76
00:03:30,580 –> 00:03:32,180
has a flower, I mean a pod
77
00:03:33,000 –> 00:03:33,720
and also my
78
00:03:34,820 –> 00:03:35,700
7-Pot Yellow
79
00:03:37,820 –> 00:03:39,260
Chaguanas yellow has
80
00:03:39,340 –> 00:03:40,460
some peppers too
81
00:03:41,140 –> 00:03:44,340
this is my umm, I don’t know really what to call it
82
00:03:44,340 –> 00:03:47,300
the seeds were labeled as Jay’s Red Ghost Scorpion
83
00:03:47,460 –> 00:03:49,780
but the pods were not the same pheno
84
00:03:50,860 –> 00:03:53,580
but I loved the plant because it was super
85
00:03:53,580 –> 00:03:56,040
super productive and the pods were really hot
86
00:03:57,240 –> 00:03:58,040
but it’s got
87
00:03:58,300 –> 00:03:59,420
some fruits on it
88
00:04:05,420 –> 00:04:06,380
Mako Kokoo has
89
00:04:08,600 –> 00:04:09,560
a lot of fruits
90
00:04:10,280 –> 00:04:12,600
the Aji Painapple’s been dropping
91
00:04:13,500 –> 00:04:14,000
a lot of
92
00:04:14,260 –> 00:04:16,740
hoping it straightens out, it’s got a
93
00:04:17,240 –> 00:04:18,280
some fruits set
94
00:04:19,060 –> 00:04:19,940
so I hope they
95
00:04:20,440 –> 00:04:20,940
do okay
96
00:04:21,680 –> 00:04:23,120
my Datil has a pod on it
97
00:04:26,520 –> 00:04:28,280
this is a Jay’s Peach Ghost
98
00:04:30,180 –> 00:04:30,980
7-Pot Olive
99
00:04:32,440 –> 00:04:34,440
this is my Puerto Rican Yellow
100
00:04:34,920 –> 00:04:36,440
It looked really rough
101
00:04:36,840 –> 00:04:37,800
initially but
102
00:04:38,840 –> 00:04:41,160
putting out a lot of nice new growth
103
00:04:41,540 –> 00:04:43,140
has a lot of peppers on it
104
00:04:44,540 –> 00:04:47,260
they’re on the small end, I think they’ll
105
00:04:47,620 –> 00:04:50,020
get bigger, and the next wave should
106
00:04:51,120 –> 00:04:52,880
look better once the plant
107
00:04:52,880 –> 00:04:54,880
grows, but just from what it is
108
00:04:55,040 –> 00:04:56,320
it’s produced a lot
I’ve got the drip system setup and I re did my drip lines. I’ve got 32 plants put out. I reused my bags and mix from last year, some are 7 gallon, some are 10 gallon.
I have enough room to put one more pair on the ends of each line. I’ll probably do that since I have some extra plants that need homes.
So far they seem to be doing well. The Blue Christmas doesn’t look quite as good, it’s real droopy and I’m wondering if it’s because it’s the only one that was in Kratky setup. Maybe it’s not adapting well, so I mixed in some more perlite around the roots, maybe that’ll give it more aeration. All the others seem to be doing fine with it.
I also hooked up my fert injector. I’m not 100% sure it’s working properly, it was not drawing the solution up initially. But after messing with it some it started to work. It’s pushing nutrients through but when I tested it coming out, it was around 200 ppm. But it is on the low range on what Dyna-gro suggests for drip irrigation on 1:100 ratio injectors, which is 10 to 18 ounces per gallon. I mixed 10 ounces per gallon,so I may just need to increase it, but I want to make sure everything’s working properly before I do that.
The Aji Painapple, which was in the AeroGarden was moved to a big wick bucket. I think it’s still adjusting but it’s not looking the best.
The Kratky Chiltepin is starting to look better.
CARDI Yellow Scorpion in the wick bucket has around 20 pods on it. The CARDI Yellow Scorpion in the hempy bucket is growing really well. It’s not putting out fruits yet, but it does have some flowers on it.
The self watering container White Devil’s Tail and other one in the wick bucket both look good.
The five gallon low pressure aeroponics system with the Helios Hab looks good. I just changed the nutrients out on it.
My Jamaican Hot Chocolate has problems. I just changed the nutrients and it smelled really bad. I felt under there and the roots were slimy. It has root rot, probably because I let it dry out a couple times. The roots are packed in there. I’ve got two air stones going. I think instead of trying to work on it, I’m just going to take some really good branch cuttings and try to propagate it for next year, just let this one go.
Plants are doing well. I’m almost done hardening off the ones that will go on the drip system. I’m also re-doing my drip lines to make it a little more efficient and redundant. My wick buckets seem to be doing well. The leaves are a little smaller than the non-wick bucket counterparts. The CARDI Yellow Scorpion in the wick bucket is starting to push out fruit, as of now there are around 10 -1 2 pods.
I found some aphids on my Helios Hab that’s in the low-pressure aeroponic setup outside. I mixed up a fresh batch of pyrethrin spray from concentrate (1 Tbsp + 32 oz water) in a spray bottle and hit all the porch plants with it.
I ordered more tubing and connectors for my drip system from drip depot. I should have everything operation by end of the week.
