Background

This is a Peruvian heirloom Capsicum baccatum pepper.

Notes

The review pod is one I grew, the seeds were given to me by Jimmy Johnson.

The amount ate: Whole pod
Heat: 2
Flavor: 7
Burn Profile:  Mostly tongue.
Effects: none
Cap Cramps: none

Review

This pepper has a fruity tangy, typical baccatum flavor, with low/medium heat. It grows kind of vine-like, might do well in a hanging pot, otherwise needs a lot of support to stay upright. It has good ornamental potential as the pods are very beautiful going through multiple color phases, from cream purple to sparkling red.

Capsicum chinense x C. baccatum

Background

This is a cross between a Capsicum chinense, Bih Jolokia (cousin to Bhut Jolokia, aka Ghost pepper) and a Capsicum baccatum, Sugar Rush Peach. The plant is short and bushy but super productive, producing bright orange pods.

Notes

My seeds came from a pod sent to me by Justin White, of white hot peppers.

Amount eaten: Whole pod
Weight: 4.4 grams
Size: 2″ x 1″
Heat: 6
Flavor: 8
Burn Profile: Under tongue, moved around. Heavy creeper.
Effects:  Stomach gas, eyes watering
Cap Cramps:  None.

Review

This pod had very thin walls with placental lining throughout. It was heavily coated with droplets of Capsicum oil. When chewing there was no immediate heat. After swallowing, it started under the tongue. It was a super creeper, taking a while to build, but it got pretty hot. The flavor was mild, fruity and sweet. I think it has a lot of applicable uses.

Capsicum baccatum

Background

This is a Capsicum baccatum that has an olive shape and size.  It ripens from green to red. My seeds came from Semillas La Palma. The plant is large and very prolific.

Notes

Pod weight: 3.6 grams
Amount eaten: Whole pod
Heat: 2
Flavor:  8 – Slightly sweet
Burn Profile: Little heat on tip of tongue
Effects: None
Cap Cramps:  None

Review

The pod I ate was very dense. When I cut it open it had thick walls, lots of seeds and juice. The flavor was hard to describe, but similar to other red baccatums.  It tasted a lot like Brazilian Starfish but a little less sweet. It had some heat, but not much, mostly focused on my tongue.
